Plantar fasciitis is a condition wherein the plantar fascia and other foot muscles are strained or pressured and this can be caused by wearing improper shoes. Doctors say that shoes which are flat soled, high heeled and ones that do not offer support to the arch of the foot can cause more tension on the plantar fascia. Moreover, using shoes that are too tight and small can lead to plantar fasciitis.

Plantar fasciitis (PF) is also called "jogger's heel" or "heel spur syndrome" because they are common in people who always run. Walking or running entails a maneuver wherein the feet use muscles and the plantar fascia in order to kick start any activity involving the feet. Factors that can also lead to PF are age, weight, improper foot mechanics and anatomical attributes.

Shoes should follow the shape and contour of the feet. Also, during activities like walking, the feet cannot perform well if the person is using shoes which are too tight, flat soled or a size smaller. Meaning, the plantar fascia makes double effort in assisting the feet during gait. As a result, it is compressed and pressured.

Physician and therapists suggest using shoes that follow the anatomical arch of the feet. Limiting the use of high heels or flat shoes wherein the arch is not supported is recommended. This is because it can lead to excess strain on the plantar fascia as it also carries the weight of the whole body.

In related news, obesity is also a cause of PF. People who are overweight press more strain on the feet because of the tremendous weight they have to carry. Hence, altering some lifestyle modification like watching the weight, doing tolerable exercise regimens and having plenty of time for rest are recommended.

Plantar fasciitis is a condition that can alter the daily activities as simple as walking and jogging. Using proper footwear to take care of the feet especially the heels is utmost priority.
