There's a new playground in Canberra, and it's a huge hit among children with physical disabilities.
The Boundless Playground, which opened on Saturday, October 11, is located in Kings Park near Lake Burley Griffin. Designed in a way that children of all types of abilities may be able to interact and play with one another, it's the first of its kind in ACT.
According to their website, this all-abilities playground aims to help children explore, test their physical limits through challenges, and even bond with their families and old and new friends.
To make the project into a reality, the Boundless Canberra Incorporated tapped on a landscape architect who designed most of the plan and the local companies to build the space and provide the needed equipment.
The entire playground is divided into various zones, some of which are ideal to children of a certain age or a developmental level. To prove too that it's completely safe for physically challenged children, there are no Disabled Access marks across the playground.
Upon the entrance, children are already greeted by a bridge that goes over a body of water. The path then leads to a lake. There will be more of these as they explore the open space. Ramps make children on wheelchairs navigate comfortably and conveniently as they pass through different topographies including vegetation.
There are also forts and tree houses, along with "secret places," which make playing here even more engaging. As a form of protective barrier, parks have land forms such as mountains.
Users can relax in the kiosk and toilets. There is also a drop-off shelter and some toilets.
According to Katy Gallagher, ACT Chief Minister, play is one of the most important aspects of childhood, and everyone in the community helped to achieve it.
The community is also proud of it since it's built based on fund-raising drives and great support from the governments and local companies.
