The United States federal officials announce that they had begun testing the Canadian-made Ebola Vaccine on humans. This is in the purpose of eradicating the disease and making sure no more lives will be taken. They said that volunteers have been vaccinated with the Ebola vaccine.
In fact, the Canadian company which manufactured the vaccine provided 20 vials for the trial vaccination. The volunteers were divided in three groups. The first group were injected with low dose of the vaccine, the second group with intermediate group and the last group had high dosage of the vaccine. They were closely monitored by health care professionals during the whole phase of the vaccination.
According to the Canadian Health Minister, Rona Ambrose, this launching of the first trial for vaccination against Ebola is a promising step towards eliminating the virus. The Ebola virus has killed over 3,000 people in West Africa. She added that if the vaccine will be effective, more lives will be saved and of course, the outbreak can be controlled.
NewLink Genetics Corporation had made the vaccine and they have the license over it. They have done testing on animals and their studies provided proof that it works in animals in preventing the infection as well as provide high survival rate whenever it will be injected right away after exposure to the virus.
The vaccine was made by combining a gene from the virus itself and other materials. Health officials say that a person cannot get the virus itself from the vaccine and there is no need for quarantine measures. The results will come out by December and if proven successful, they would test it on more people including health care professionals who are intervening with Ebola patients in Africa.
The Ebola virus vaccine is a new hope amidst the tragic outbreak in Africa which took loves not only of patients but also of good hearted health care professionals.
