"Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of F" premiered on 658 theaters for both 2D and 3D screens in Japan last Apr. 18.

During the first-day screening event at Shinjuku's Wald9 Theater in Tokyo, the film's staff revealed that it will be screened in 74 countries worldwide according to Anime News Network. This is the first Japanese movie to open in 3D IMAX Digital Theaters.

Funimation has previously hosted the North American premiere of "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of F" on Apr. 11 in Los Angeles. The company also confirmed that they are planning to release an English-dubbed version of the film in summer 2015.

It is directed by Tadayoshi Yamamuro while series creator Akira Toriyama created the film's concept, screenplay and character designs. Momoiro Clover Z performed its theme song and Maximum the Hormone's 2008 hardcore punk song, "F," is used in one of the battle scenes.

Toriyama has said in an interview before that the "F" in the movie stands for Frieza who is revived in the film. He also revealed that he was able to come up with the title while listening to Maximum the Hormone's eighth single.

"Resurrection of F" is set around three years after the events of "Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods." One of Frieza's soldiers was able to gather Earth's dragon balls and use them to revive the intergalactic warlord. Afterwards, while still recovering in space, Frieza prepares his army for an attack on Earth and kill Trunks and Goku.

However, in the film, Frieza was reportedly not used as a real threat to Goku. Even though he has shown that he is stronger than Gohan, he was not able to dominate the fights even while in his Golden Frieza form.

"Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F' is an enjoyable enough movie but also a deeply flawed one. While the first half of the film is filled with great action, comedy, and a fun new character, the film loses its momentum once the main battle begins and tension all but disappears," Kotaku reported.
