A 6-month pregnant woman was shot by her boyfriend in Raleigh but she was able to call 911 for help with her dying breath hence saving the life of her unborn baby, police report said.

Kimberly Dianne Richardson, 25, was shot by her boyfriend, Daniel Joseph Steele, 25, at around 9:30 pm on Saturday at 3600 block of Sumner Boulevard, reported by ABC 11.

On Monday, Raleigh Police Department released the recording of the disturbing and chilling call moments after she was shot by her boyfriend. Nearly losing her consciousness, she asked for help. "Help, I've been shot." She added, "I can't ... I can't talk. I'm at Party City behind the Triangle Town Center Mall."

WNCN reported that before she was able to disclose her location, she would stop for seconds gasping for air before she could talk. After she told the operator that she was outside, there was an eerie silence before sirens can be heard in the background.

She was taken to WakeMed where the doctors performed an emergency cesarean section to try to save her baby's life. Miraculously, her daughter survived but Richardson succumbed to her injuries on Sunday morning.

Steele was taken into custody after authorities tracked him in his home miles away from the scene of the crime. He is held at the Wake County jail without bond. Steele appeared in court on Monday as Judge Vincent Rozier told him he could face death penalty.

A friend of the couple remembered Richardson as a 'real sweetheart'.

"I would never expect for him to do something like that to her because they were having a kid and it's just mind-blowing and it's definitely out of the blue."

Friends created a fund raising event for Richardson's funeral. Her last photo in her Facebook account was taken on March 25 showing her baby bump with the caption, "26 weeks eeek!!!"
