The clock is ticking and still no Spider-Man for the reboot?
Robert Downey Jr. talks details about the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War" including the first appearance of a much younger web-slinger. With filming date nearing comes the question: who will play the titular character in the upcoming Marvel reboot "Spider-Man" movie set for a July 2017 release date.
In a recent interview with David Letterman, "Avengers: Age of Ultron" star Robert Downey Jr. shared details about the upcoming plans for "Captain America: Civil War." In this, not only does he mention that plot that will revolve around his character, Iron Man/Tony Stark to be pitted against Captain America/Steve Rogers portrayed by Chris Evans, but also that a certain younger superhero will appear in the movie.
Comic Book reported that while the host, David Letterman asked Downey if the new Spider-Man will appear, he replied and said, "He may well be. Yeah, I hear that they're looking to cast a new Spider-Man."
After "The Maze Runner" actors Dylan O'Brien and Logan Lerman topping the casting list for the "Spider-Man" reboot for months now, a new list of even younger-looking actors are said to be in the running to play the Marvel superhero.
The Wrap reported that there are now five top contenders for the role of Spider-Man in the upcoming reboot. Asa Butterfield, Timothee Chalamet, Tom Holland, Liam James and Nat Wolff are all in the running to portray the high school Peter Parker come "Spider-Man" reboot release date in 2017.
Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland and Liam James are the youngest in the list, all 18 years old to date, while Timothee Chalamet and Nat Wolff are both 20-year-olds. Asa Butterfield is known for leading the cast in the 2013 film "Ender's Game"; Tom Holland appeared in the 2012 film "The Impossible" and is among the cast member of the coming 2015 film, "In the Heart of the Sea."
Liam James is known for his work in "The Way, Way Back" (2013), Timothee Chalamet is in the 2014 film "Interstellar" and Nat Wolff appeared in the 2014 drama, "The Fault in Our Stars."
The same report revealed that within a few weeks, a new Peter Parker will be announced, in time to meet the "Spider-Man" reboot release date, as well as the filming of "Captain America: Civil War."
