A 59-year old woman from the United States is facing a legal battle in order for her to obtain her daughter's frozen eggs so she could become pregnant with her own grandchild. Her daughter had her eggs frozen after being diagnosed with cancer and passed away on 2011.
The woman is referred to as 'Mrs. M' and according to Fertility expert Dr. Mohammed Taranissi, this is the first time a woman wants her daughter's eggs to be implanted into her womb, reports Short News.
The judge handling the legal case was told that the daughter's final wish as she was suffering from cancer, was to have her frozen eggs implanted to her mother. She said she would feel devastated knowing her eggs could not be caused.
The daughter died in her late 20s on 2011 and this left her mother determined to make her wish come true. Her parents want to export the eggs from New York where a clinic is willing to provide them the services they needed, reports Independent Irish.
The family wished to remain unidentified to protect their confidentiality and privacy. Moreover, they want the case to remain delicate and sensitive. However, the Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority (HFEA) is not allowing the transfer of the eggs from London to be sent to the United States. According to them, there was insufficient evidence to show that the daughter really wanted her mother to use donor sperm to carry her child. Until today, they are awaiting the final decision of the high court to grant her the authority to get her daughter's eggs from London. The issue has created buzz over the internet due to morality issues.
