Migraine and its Causes Revealed

Migraine is a common predicament among many individuals. How does it develop and what causes it? When there are minute changes in the chemicals of the brain, it can lead to irritation to the nerves, hence pain is felt.

There are essentially two categories of neurotransmitters: excitatory and inhibitory. Excitatory neurotransmitters have inspiring or stimulating effects while inhibitory neurotransmitters have calming and soothing effects to the body.

Equilibrium and balance should be present between the two because when there is alteration, it causes migraine. There are hormones that can lead to migraine in women, estrogen and progesterone. They are vital in regulation of menstruation as well as pregnancy.

Furthermore, migraines occur as an effect of hormone shifts during pregnancy, menopause and when on oral contraceptives. Food can lead to migraine. There are many food that can lead to migraines. Also, food additives can cause migraine.

The foods that are known to cause migraine are pickles, chili peppers, olives, dried fruits, bananas, yeast breads, pizza, processed meat, bacon, hotdogs, aged cheese, sour cream, red wine, chocolates, vinegar and anything with MSG. Stress can lead to migraine too.

Stress is a common quandary in the everyday lives of almost every one. Tenacious stress can cause many problems including migraines. When an individual is stressed, the hormones become elevated and the muscles become tensed. Too much stimuli on the senses can cause migraine.

Extreme sensory stimuli like bright lights and loud sounds can lead to migraine. Aside from that, extreme changes in weather like being in a very hot or very cold environment can trigger migraine. Consequently, some medications can trigger or cause migraine especially when you suddenly stop taking these after prolonged use. These medicines are Antihistamines, antihypertensives, oral contraceptives, decongestants, hormone replacement therapy medications and pain relievers.

Migraine is a debilitating pain because it can last for hours up to days. Proper medication is needed in order to halt the pain before it reaches its peak.
