Sexual orientation as defined in many books and resources is a pattern of sexual or romantic attraction. Scientists however, haven't determined yet on how an individual develops a sexual preference or particular sexual orientation. Others claim that it is a result of genetic, hormonal or environmental factors that affect one's sexual preference.
This can be expressed in various ways such as in one's culture. Sometimes, culture dictates what is considered normal and acceptable form of sexual preference and orientation. The social stigma over the sexual orientation of an individual is a powerful force that hinders someone to truly find their true sexuality.
There are basically four types of social orientation like heterosexuality, homosexuality, bisexuality and transsexuality. Heterosexuality entails someone who finds sexual contentment and fulfillment with someone of the opposite gender. Majority of individuals are considered heterosexuals.
For example, a man is attracted to a woman. This is what is considered a normal norm among civilizations and countries. When a person reaches the age of puberty, attraction to the opposite sex starts to kick off.
Homosexuality, on the other hand, is when a person finds sexual fulfillment in someone of the same sex or gender. This is what many termed as "gay" or "lesbian" for men and women respectively.
This type of sexual orientation has sparked many theories on how a person develops such sexual preference. The reason why it develops is still unknown but there are evidences linking genetics and homosexuality. Some say that when the baby was still in the uterus, abnormal levels of estrogen or testosterone will lead to homosexuality.
Homosexuality is a controversial topic among many countries. They are regarded as different from the society and they feel different. Many undergo homosexuality identity crisis because they fear to reveal their personality to their family and friends.
Bisexuality is also a term used nowadays. In this category, sexual contentment and fulfillment is achieved through relationships with both homosexual and heterosexual individuals. For example, a man can have a relationship with both women and men. Bisexual and homosexual men are at high risk of developing sexually transmitted diseases and even Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).
Transsexuality is when a person who feels as if he or she should be of the opposite gender. They are the ones who undergo sex change operations. They achieve gratification if they see themselves someone of the sex or gender they want to be.
