Singapore (YHM) - Anti Lee Kuan Yew blogger Amos Yee, 16, was remanded by the court to determine if his conduct is suitable for reformative training. On his way to the courtroom, Amos Yee showed an obscene gesture to the media, AsiaOne reported.
Due to his blatant disregard for the law after a court warning, Amos Yee could get a tougher sentence. The State Courts convened an urgent hearing on Monday.
The hearing follows another blog post containing offensive online content. He was convicted for posting on his blog on May 12, after the court explicitly requested him to refrain from doing so.
The teenager, who is a member of the Catholic Church, refused to show up for an interview with his probation officer, claiming that he preferred a jail sentence to probation. The number of days that he spent in jail when he was remanded had already added up to what would be considered a jail term.
"This prompted the prosecution to push for Yee to be sentenced to reformative training - where young offenders are detained for a minimum period of 18 months in a centre where they have no contact with adult prison inmates," Asiaone.com quoted the Deputy Public ProsecutorHay Hung Chun as saying.
