Disney is letting kids live their dream in a very real way.
A new line of toys called “Disney’s Playmation,” which is set to hit stores in October, is mixing high-tech wearable gadgets and “old-school superhero role-playing,” allowing children to explore the world of “The Avengers” and “Frozen” while exercising, according to the Associated Press.
The toy will be released with a red Iron Man “repulsor” glove as well, according to the NY Times.
“I see this as a breakthrough item, especially in the action and role-play aisle,” Jim Silver, the editor of TTPM, a toy review website, said in an interview.
“What Disney has done here is so sophisticated that I actually don’t like the word ‘toy’ for it.”
Children from the ages of 6 and up will reportedly be guided by the voice of J.A.R.V.I.S., also known as Iron Man’s computing system, through a series of 25 missions. They will reportedly have to navigate different terrains (using their own imagination) then use the repulsor to fire missiles, shoot beams and raise shields.
Kids will reportedly have to physically jump or hide incoming attacks in order to earn points and progress throughout the game.
Sensors imbedded inside the armband will reportedly help determine whether shots hit the target or if the players have dodged away successfully.
Various versions of the upcoming line will be available in the next couple years. Hulk Hands will reportedly be available in November, while “Star Wars” themed packages will debut in 2016. “Frozen” packages will reportedly go on sale in 2017.
Sadly, the fun will come with a price, as the retail price for the initial package has reportedly been set at $120. Although the price may be higher compared to other toys, it may be worth it.
“Kids are aspirational, they want to becomes the heroes. Parents will love that it’s classic play,” stated Silver.
