The "Deux Ex: Mankind Divided" gameplay will allow players to win boss fights using different techniques.
In the latest issue of the Official Xbox Magazine (OXM), "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" gameplay director Patrick Fortier and narrative director Mary DeMarie talk about the importance of giving players the freedom of choice in boss encounters similar to the main game.
"It's all about supporting all the different play aspects," Fortier said. "That was the main thing that was missing from the boss fights. Thematically, I think they were interesting, but certain players found a challenge there that wasn't really catered to them."
Fortier explained that the "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" gameplay will provide players with several options on how to defeat the bosses. "There are ways to stealth them, there are ways to beat them in combat and there are conversations you can have that maybe give you a different means of dealing with the situation altogether," he added.
"You can also decide to do it lethally or not," DeMarie revealed. "For 'Human Revolution,' because of the way we designed it, [the bosses] always died in the cutscenes. You had no choice. But we rectified that in the Missing Link DLC and we've rectified it in this game."
The "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" gameplay is set in 2029, two years after the events of "Human Revolution" as well as the "Aug Incident" in Panchaea, which ended the era of human augmentation. These horrendous events scarred the world and, as a result, caused augmented people to be segregated and casted out from society.
The "Deus Ex" series is known for its balanced, open-ended gameplay with complex stories; usually about transhumanism, conspiracy theories, and global politics. In "Mankind Divided," mechanically augmented humans are treated like lepers, ethnic minorities, and political dissidents. In "Human Revolution," Adam was ambivalent about his cyborg conversion.
"Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" is slated for release sometime in 2016 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
