Nina Dobrev may come back to "The Vampire Diaries" as hinted by actor Paul Wesley.
In an interview with TV Insider, actor Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan Salvatore in the series, confirmed that Nina Dobrev's "The Vampire Diaries" character still has a big role in the story. The "TVD" season 6 finale showed Elena Gilbert put into a sleeping spell for 60 years by villain Kai.
"Elena's still a very big part of the story," Wesley admitted. "Her body's in danger in the first few episodes, and Damon is doing everything he can to make sure it stays safe if and when she wakes up."
"We all had imagined this complete reboot where Elena was gone, but she's talked about so much!"
According to Australia Network, the 26-year-old actress no longer wants to come back to "The Vampire Diaries." Dobrev's former castmates teased that Elena Gilbert was still very much alive during Comic-Con 2015.
"I think that's what's fun about this series," Candice Accola admitted.
"You never know when characters are going to leave, you never know when they're going to come back. That's been a constant for six seasons, now. So the fact that, for such a big departure, that it is left open-ended, is really true to the show."
Who What Wear reported that Nina Dobrev is moving forward and away from "The Vampire Diaries." The publication added that she is "steering clear of anything vampire related" and has become picky about her next roles, for fear of being casted into the same types of roles again.
"I want to do something dark and gritty," she told the publication. "I want to work with directors that I admire and that will make me better and actors that will challenge me and scare the s--t out of me."
"I feel like I'm playing catch-up on basic life things that I didn't get to do working so much," she said.
