Ian Somerhalder revealed how he felt after Nina Dobrev left "The Vampire Diaries."
In his interview with Variety, the "TVD" actor talked about his ex-girlfriend and co-star Nina Dobrev and the show. Somerhalder also discussed his environmental-focused foundation.
"I personally think everyone thought it was going to be a huge departure after Elena (Nina Dobrev) was gone," Ian Somerhalder said. "And I was one of those people."
"I thought it was going to be a huge departure for the typical formula of our show. By virtue of the fact that it wasn't a huge leap for mankind, as far as changing it up, there were some differences that sort of mixed up the formula."
The 36-year-old actor also revealed that he has just started shooting "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 episode 10. "The episode was really about Damon, but that's not why I think it was the best at all," he admitted.
"The way the story was put together ... every artisan from set to producers to wardrobe to everyone was just so on-point... It was a Civil War episode. I was covered in dirt and gunpowder with things blowing up around me."
The Ian Somerhalder Foundation is focused on the environment, from habitat extinction to green technology and no-kill animal shelters. Somerhalder and his wife, Nikki Reed, are both active in speaking up for animal rights and saving the Earth.
"This generation, ultimately, is the most pivotal generation in humankind," he told the publication. "They can slow this train down by changing the way their lives are and by putting policymakers in office who can fight for this."
It was previously reported that Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed recently uploaded a video in support of animal rights. The clip showed the couple taking care of their dog.
Furthermore, the couple has reportedly been having marital problems. Apparently, the major conflict stemmed from Ian Somerhalder wanting a baby now while the "Twilight" actress still wants to build her career.
