On the November 18, 2014 report of the World Health Organization (WHO), the death toll of Ebola Virus Disease has reached 5,459 wherein there are 39 recorded deaths and 106 new cases. A report from Reuters reveals that the total 15,351 cases identified where from eight countries.
"Transmission remains intense in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. All six known Ebola cases in Mali have now died and 327 contacts exposed to the virus are being monitored in the capital Bamako," the WHO report said.
In related news, the Cuban doctor who is the first from their country to contract Ebola is now in stable condition. He was evacuated from Sierra Leone to Geneva by the WHO and health officials. He was transferred in a hospital and Geneva. Health officials from the University Hospital of Geneva states that Felix Baez is in isolation and he is in a stable condition as of the moment.
The doctor is under the experimental treatment called ZMapp, which was made by Mapp Biopharmaceutical. Meanwhile, health officials are tracking all possible contacts of the doctor for possible quarantine.
Earlier on Friday, the WHO declared that a separate outbreak of Ebola in Democratic Republic of Congo is over because no one of those being monitored showed symptoms of the disease even after two incubation periods since the last reported case. Overall, there were 49 deaths out of the 66 infected people in the province.
Up to date, experimental treatments were being used to treat health care professionals who were infected with the Ebola virus. However, there is no known cure or treatment yet. Supportive care and extensive hydration are known effective means to help patients recover from the infection. Vaccines are still in progress.
