Furthermore, "The Vampire Diaries" ratings are declining because of Nina Dobrev's departure at the end of the previous season.
According to Inquisitr, Somerhalder has all the reasons to leave the series before The CW decides to end it.
Upon turning 37 on Dec. 8, Ian Somerhalder felt that this is the right time to quit and settle down. Reportedly, as the actor nears 40 years old, he feels the baby fever even more.

Recently cast for a role on "Sleepy Hollow," Reed might not want to risk her career over starting a family with Somerhalder.
Realty Today also reported that Ian Somerhalder's character, Damon Salvatore might be killed off in a future episode. However, rumors of "The Vampire Diaries" being cancelled and Somerhalder's character being cut off are still mere speculations and should be taken with a grain of salt.
