Cinnamon is a common spice that is taken from the branches of wild tress called "Cinnamomun" which are found in the Carribean areas including South America and also found in Southeast Asia. It is said to possess many health benefits such as its potency in fighting microogranisms  and combatting diabetes among others.

There are two types of Cinnamon, Ceylon which is most commonly used in western countries and Chinese cinnamon which originated from South China and is cheaper than Ceylon. The rich history and medicinal use of cinnamon can be traced back to 2000 BC in Egypt where it was a highly prized spice. Ancient doctors used it to treat certain conditions like cough, arthritis and even sore throat.

It can maintain a healthy blood sugar level hence preventing Diabetes. There are many studies that can attest to this ability of cinnamon. Ceylon cinnamon was discovered to be more effective in controlling the blood sugar levels. It has an effect on blood sugar control for at least 3-5% similar to older generation diabetes drugs. Furthermore, according to another study, it helps improve glucose and lipid levels in patients with Type 2 diabetes.

Alzheimer's disease, the most common form of dementia, can be prevented through cinnamon. Tel Aviv University researchers found out that cinnamon can prevent this condition because the bark of the tree contains properties that prevent the formation of plagues in the brain.

Lastly, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) can be treated by cinnamon. An Indian study says that the most effective extracts against HIV-11 and HIV-2 are respectively Cinnamomun cassia (bark) and Cardiospermum helicacabum (shoot).
