28 3 to 4 year olds were rushed to the hospital after ingesting a mix of water and bleach at the day care center they were attending. 2 adults were also rushed along with the kids after ingesting the same water and bleach mix.
According to reports someone at the day care served water to the children and the other 2 adults and by mistake used a bottle that used to contain bleach. The water that has been served had a small portion of bleach on it. A few hours after those served drank the said water they began feeling nauseous. The kids most especially complained having stomachaches.
Several ambulances were sent off to the day care center to pick up the children and the adults after the Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health received a call regarding the emergency a few minutes before 11 in the morning, according to Mark Rabson, spokesperson for the said hospital.
Rabson further added that while the patients were confined at their hospital, each of them were placed under close monitoring and were given liquids for treatment. The patients were released later that day around 3 in the afternoon after the safety of their condition has been confirmed.
The hospital has worked with a national center for poison control in order to be assured of the efficacy of the treatment rendered to the patients especially that most of them are very young kids.
Meanwhile, the day care center is currently under investigation with regards to the incident according to a spokesperson for New Jersey's Department of Children and Families. On the other hand the day care center's executive director is yet to respond to questions addressed to her by the media regarding the incident.
