Despite being first in the NBA Eastern Conference standings right now, the Cleveland Cavaliers recently fired their head coach David Blatt.
As Adrian Wojnarowski reported, this decision to fire the head coach was a long time coming. According to the article, assistant head coach Tyronn Lue will take over head coaching duties. Lue has been a personal favorite for the team's leader and superstar Lebron James.
As seen on bleacherreport.com, it has been also speculated that James and his agent Rich Paul have been pushing for Blatt to be fired as they wanted Mark Jackson to take his place.
It was reported by Yahoo! Sports that James and his head coach struggled in their first year in building their relationship. As ESPN's Marc Stein reported during last season's NBA Playoff run,
"There was James, in one instance I witnessed from right behind the bench, shaking his head vociferously in protest after one play Blatt drew up in the third quarter of Game 5, amounting to the loudest nonverbal scolding you could imagine -- which forced Blatt, in front of his whole team, to wipe the board clean and draw up something else," Stein reported.
Now, it's being reported that even bigger changes are coming and it looks like Kevin Love may be on his way out of the team. According to cbssports.com, ESPN insider Brian Windhorst stated that when the team was informed of their head coach's firing, they initially thought Love was traded.
This has led many to believe that Love is on the trading block especially given his well-documented inability to play with starting point guard Kyrie Irving.
One of the teams that could possibly bring in the former All-Star is the Portland Trail Blazers. As reported by blazersedge.com, it's rumored that the Cavs could look to trade improved shooting guard C.J. McCollum for Love straight up. Also, experts believe that the Toronto Raptors could look to upgrading their roster by trading for Love.
The team could offer a mix of veterans like Patrick Patterson, DeMarre Carroll and draft picks. Since the Raptors just signed young small forward Terrence Ross to an extension, the team could part ways with recently signed DeMarre Carroll if they feel Ross needs the minutes to develop his game. The trade would then give the Cavs a deeper rotation if they decide to play small ball.
