Quentin Tarantino recently revealed a potential film he could have done with "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" director J.J. Abrams.
As a guest on Nerdist, the director of "Kill Bill," "Pulp Fiction," "Hateful Eight" and "Django Unchained" shared that he and Abrams could have possibly made a "Speed Racer" film before the Wachowskis' version.
According to uproxx.com, Abrams had a script ready and they had "Pirates of the Carribean" star Johnny Depp to be the leading role. Due to budget constraints, the film was scrapped. The version that did make the screen was critically panned.
However, according to collider.com, Lana and Andy Wachowski were quick to defend their film. "Well rejection of any aesthetic exploration that was outside the boundaries of the typical, conventional aesthetics of cinema," Lana said about the film's backlash.
"And at that moment I was feeling really crappy about the aesthetic direction of cinema, and especially the dialogue around the aesthetics of cinema. And I went to my favorite- one of my favorite theaters in Chicago that had been a sustaining force, an inspiring force when I was much younger, it's a small, tiny place called Facets, and they were screening 'You the Living.'"
She then added "And I watched 'You the Living,' directed by Roy Andersson, and it was so unbelievable and it was so- it was an aesthetic experience, and as an audience member, I had never seen anything like it. He had created something so idiosyncratic, so original, so vast in its representation of humanity."
"I instantly felt an association with Chekov and the way that Chekov understands the darker, more selfish, narcissistic, destructive nature of humanity and yet he never stops loving humanity," she continued.
"This movie did everything I needed. It was like a resurrection and I was inspired again, and since then I watched the movie, I don't know, twenty times and I can't stop watching it. I am so excited about his new movie, I actually made a pilgrimage to meet him and see how he works. Anyway, Roy Andersson, that's one. Was that too ramble-y?
Tarantino has been one to be known for taking a challenge in creating new and exciting films. With his "hero" like status in the comic book and geek universe, many believe that the director could relive talks about a "Speed Racer" reboot.
