On Tuesday, Apple successfully launched its newest products into the market including the Apple iPhone 6 and the Apple Watch. However, with all the publicity surrounding their supposed health promotions for the Apple Watch, the part mentioning how great it is for healthcare were, unfortunately, cut from the program.
Apple users were looking forward to learning more about the HealthKit applications on the new gadget and many were looking forward to how the company planned on initiating their kick off into the multibillion-dollar mobile health niche of the growing health industry. Some were also in anticipation of possibly hearing from publicized partner, Mayo Clinic, to announce how Apple's new health gadget and health apps could make a difference in actual health care. Many were disappointed when the presentation centered on super sizing the iPhone 6 rather than getting into details about breaking into the healthcare market.
What is now known about the Apple Watch is that it Health and fitness applications are composed of applications that are focused mainly on fitness. And, while it cannot presently identify or monitor an ongoing disease, it can keep track of the users heart rate, pulse, or capture step count. They were disappointed about the lack of in-depth discussion about what the Apple Watch could actually do for monitoring health because, strategically leaked information about the gadget suggested there were many. Over the past months, Apple have released statements on how they were working with a variety of medical device engineers, Epic Software, Mayo Clinic, and other prominent health organizations, but these were not even mentioned during the launch.
Darius Tahir from Modern Healthcare felt that the device did not live up to expectations and said, "Reports in advance of the [Watch] unveiling predicted greater ambitions for the variety of health metrics the device would be able to track." Apple fanatics are still hopeful that the tech giant will be able to resolve any issues with the gadget and that the company's big healthcare push will be coming soon.
