Quality medical care is available for every resident in Houston, but there are world-class medical services are also being patronized by people from all over the world, making Houston one of the most thriving medical hubs in this part of the world. Annually, there is an estimated 18,000 international patients that come to Houston seeking medical care from one it's many prestigious medical institutions, or medical services from the physicians and surgeons in the area.

The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center is one of the earliest institutions that helped to build Houston's reputation as a medical destination. This facility is recognized as one of the countries premiere diagnostic and treatment centers for cancer, and has kept with the times by adapting and pioneering a multitude of therapeutic techniques that they make available to the public through clinical trials. Experts from M.D. Anderson also Courtney and collaborate with other cancer specialists and cancer research centers around the world for a more comprehensive understanding of the disease.

Other establishments that are helping to cement Houston's medical reputation are the Baylor College of Medicine and UT Health Medical School, both of which are world-class medical schools that are moving in the direction that transforms conventional healthcare practices into innovative techniques. These institutions have even been compared to some of the most distinguished in the country including the Cleveland Clinic, Tufts, Stanford, Harvard, and the Mayo Clinic, all of which "stand out for their academic programs."

Mike Cantu from the Houston Methodist System also added that the Texas Medical Center is flagship facility with "a 1000-bed teaching ad research hospital where we have based our center of excellence-our high-end, high-complexity patient care, such as our transplant programs for the heart, and our neuroscience programs."

The Texas Children's Hospital is another addition to their arsenal of medical heavyweights, and is home to experts that are highly trained in a variety of pediatric subspecialties and women's health. They are even accepting people who have been turned away by other centers.
