The "Gravity Falls" finale titled "Weirdmageddon III: Take Back the Falls" is airing in a couple of days but fans continue to hope that it won't be the last time they'd see Dipper and Mabel Pines as a recent interview with the animation series creator, Alex Hirsch, highlighted a possible return of the show in the future.

"Gravity Falls" showrunner recently sat with TV Insider and confirmed what fans are hoping for that he is open to returning to "Gravity Falls" in the future. Hirsch, however, clarified that it will not happen anytime soon and that it may not necessarily be in the form of another full season.

"I do love these characters and that's part of why I didn't want to continue forever," Hirsch told TV Insider. "I wouldn't want to take them to a place I didn't believe in."

"That being said, it's not inconceivable that one day we may return to this world because they are such rich characters and with a little bit of time away from it, it's possible there may be a special or something. But I think when people watch the final episode, they will see threads in that episode that one imagines could potentially be addressed in some future form," he added.

Alex Hirsch added that he is already content where "Gravity Falls" is right now and whatever "Future Alex" may do, fans will have to wait and see, whether it's in a comic or a special.

"Or it's something 100-years after I die with robots reconstructing the show and remaking it themselves," Hirsch also said.

Meanwhile, the "Gravity Falls" cast, including Jason Ritter who voices Dipper and Kristen Schaal who voices Mabel, have already said their emotional goodbye at a special event in Glendale, California ahead of the series finale.

"We all lose a piece of our identity  at least three times in a lifetime," Kristen Schaal said (via ComicBook), referring to the "Gravity Falls" finale as one of those times.
