Cheating Has Nothing Do With Love, 'It can Even Save Marriages,' Sociologist Says

Sex is healthy

Men are designed to cheat, according to a new scientific study. While they are designed to, this does not mean they should.

According to sociologist, sexologist, and professor Eric Anderson, science can explain why men have difficulties in staying loyal to their partners. Speaking with Tyrese Gibson and Rev. Run for their new relationship series called "It's Not You, It's Men," Anderson puts out what many stereotypically knows already: men are programmed to be polygamous.

"Men are endocrinologically designed to cheat," he says. "Monogamy is not the normal expectation across the world -- monogamy never has been a normal expectation across the world. It is a new invention."

Tyrese added that the reason why cheating can be painful for the party cheated on is largely because of society. He said that if only people can view relationships another way apart from being monogamous, then cheating should not be that painful.

"The reason it's connected to pain is because we're socially constructed to view cheating and sex outside of marriage as being damaging," he explained. "Therefore, when monogamy goes wrong, we're supposed to believe that the relationship is dead. That's simply not true." He said that society should learn to accept open relationships as an alternative type of relationships. This includes swinging.

While the crowd positively hissed with what he is suggesting, he continued on, citing statistics to back his claims. According to him, 89% of the population have either been cheaters or the cheated party.  He said therefore that the current model of monogamy being observed, simply is not working.

He asserted that cheating has nothing to do with love, or the lack thereof. He said people can only be monogamous for a while, the lack of sex a couple engages in can lead to thoughts of dissatisfaction and cheating, and ultimately, to the act itself. He said cheating has nothing therefore to do with love, but everything to do with sex and biology. "[Cheating] might just be about having sexual desires met," Anderson says. "Not because you failed to love, not because you don't respect your partner."

He believes that by accepting this premise, the problem of divorce can be solved. Children's parents need not separate if they allow each other to cheat.

He was not the first to come up with the premise though. Many reported that swinging actually improved their mental health and their marriage
