Scott Kelly, NASA's first and only year-long man, gave his final conference on the International Space Station recently. Aside from talking about his experience, Kelly spoke about how amazing NASA's plan to try and send humans to Mars next.
"I think we'll learn a lot about longer-duration spaceflight and how that will take us to Mars someday, So I'd like to think that this is another of many steppingstones to us landing on Mars sometime in our future" gushed Kelly during the interview.
NASA admitted that the Mars exploration would be a little bit trickier compared to all the explorations that were done before. This is mainly because Mars is quite far from the Earth thus the astronauts that would be sent there would need to undergo even more extensive training.
Going to Mars would be harder in a sense that nobody knows what to expect once they arrive there. Furthermore, Mars is located on the other side of the universe so far from Earth that you can't even see any sign of the little blue planet on Mars.
During the conference, Kelly's homecoming was also talked discussed. Upon his return Kelly would go through a series of tests including medical check-ups in order to help their bodies adjust to Earth's different environment.
Because of the long period of time that they spent in space, Kelly admitted that his stint on the ISS took a toll in his health. He reveals that his eye sight got weaker and he feels as if his muscles got weaker as well. However aside from minor issues, Kelly explained his concern about the possible effects of space radiation on his body. During his interview last week, Kelly commented about it with a tease saying:
"Hopefully, I'll never find out what the true effects are of that,"
