NASA Astronaut Scott Kelly has previously gushed about he misses most about life on earth. In the last few weeks of his lengthy mission, the astronaut explained that aside from missing his wife and children, he revealed that he has also longed for quite a few things people on earth take for granted - specifically the weather.

"What you miss is the people, and then the weather. Going outside, there's no sun on your face. ... You never feel this cool breeze. It's always exactly the same" explained Kelly.

The 52 year old astronaut embarked on a year-long mission aboard the International Space Station last March 2015. The astronaut was scheduled to journey towards earth in the first of March. Fortunately, according to several reports the esteemed astronaut has returned safely back on the planet.

Following a record-breaking 340 consecutive days in space, Scott Kelly together with Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Korneinko landed in Kazakhstan at 1126PM, March 1, Eastern Standard Time.

Aboard the Russian Space Capsule, Soyuz, the pair together with pilot Sergey Volkov, embarked in an hours long journey that started in the afternoon of March 1st.

The rocket had to free fall for about 25 minutes following its launch from the International Space Station. Upon hitting the Earth's atmosphere, the parachutes of the space capsule successfully deployed - carrying its three passengers to the surface of the planet. Minutes before the landing, rockets are deployed in order to slow the capsule even further. Scientists and doctors remain on hand in order to secure the safety of the astronauts.

Following the landing, Scott Kelly is in for several months worth of medical tests. He and his twin brother, Mark Kelly, are part of "twins" study which aims to uncover the effects of spaceflight to a person's physiology, behaviour and genetics. Kelly has since turned over the command of the station to fellow astronaut, Tim Kopra.
