Addie Fausett from Fountain Green, Utah is suffering from a rare disease which is still undiagnosed. The disease causes severe cerebral atrophy that affects her speech and motor skills. Recently, doctors told the family that she would likely to only live for a year.
This year, the Fausett family was informed that this might be Addie's last Christmas. According to her mother, when she was just 3 years old, she stopped growing and weighs not more than 23 pounds. This is the time her doctors found out that her brain is shrinking.
After the austere prognosis, the family of Addie asked the public to send Christmas cards to Addie this Christmas. These cards would bring her joy and the public did not disappoint this request. The word of request went viral through social media and up to date, they received thousands of cards from all over the world.
While the cards started one by one, the family says they received thousands in just a few days. Hence, they made a Facebook page for her, "Little Addie" so senders can see the photos and be updated with Addie's condition.
Tami Fausett, Addie's mother said in an interview, "I had no idea asking for a card would spread so fast. It means a lot that so many people care that much. A card doesn't seem like a lot, but to Addie it is so much. It is amazing."
By the volume of the letters being sent, one might think that the letters for Santa Clause were accidentally rerouted to Utah. However, the letters are addressed to Addie. "Thank you for my cards," Addie told a postal worker on a recent trip to pick up letters from the post office.
To those who wants to send their Christmas greetings, they can send them to Addie Lynn and Sisters, P.O. Box 162, Fountain Green, Utah 84632.
