Today is the deadline and last day for registration or renewal of health insurance under the Affordable Care Act to make certain that the insurance benefits will take effect on the first day of 2015.
If citizens fail to register for the health insurance, any insurance won't start until February 1. Obamacare is an unofficial name for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (the Affordable Care Act) which was signed into law by President Barack Obama in 2010.
Monday night marks the deadline for Obamacare and the last chance for customers to renew their coverage starting January 1, 2015. Enrolling for health care insurance can potentially save tem hundreds and thousands of dollars on health insurance by 2015.
Before the start of the current start of registration, about 6.7 million have been already enrolled in Obamacare health plans across the country before November 15, according to Department of Health and Human Services.
However, they reported that around 719,000 existing customers in all 35 states enrolled in a new plan or renew their existing plan in their present coverage. More than 70% of current ACA marketplace enrollees could land in a cheaper plan with comparable coverage in the market.
Having a reliable health insurance will definitely help a lot of Americans with their health needs next year.
In related news, other states are extending their deadline for the registration and sign up of Obamacare in order to reach out to more customers and give ample time for constituents to register.
Califronia's health insurance exchange has extended their deadline until December 21, 2014 in time for its efficacy on January 1. Currently, their enrollment nears 49,000 new customers.
Peter Lee, executive director of Covered California, said people who start the application process or make some effort by Monday will have until Dec. 21 to finish signing up. Monday at midnight had previously been the hard deadline.
He added, "We are providing this window to get people across the finish line. We know many of the people applying have never had insurance before, and these are individuals who need to sit down and talk with someone."
