Multi-awarded Bryan Cranston may have played a chemistry teacher turned meth cook slash drug kingpin in the equally successful show Breaking Bad, but he was nothing but a sweet, gentle person when he granted a special request from a cancer patient last September 20, 2014, Saturday.
The 58-year-old actor played Walter White, a character who suffered from an inoperable lung cancer, forcing him to turn to meth to raise funds for his family. Nineteen-year-old Brad Joyner, meanwhile, has been diagnosed with a serious brain cancer called glioblastoma around six months ago.
Joyner enjoyed the AMC series so much, and while he was undergoing treatment, he also created his bucket list, which including getting acquainted with Cranston in person.
With the help of his friends and family, he is able to tick each of his wishes such as swimming with the sharks, his summer accomplishment. He was also able to drive old Mustang cars. But for his major wish, his loved ones created several YouTube videos while his photographer aunt launched the #BreakingBrad campaign by taking photos with the hashtag wherever she went. Not long after, the request eventually reached Cranston.
Although Cranston was not able to personally meet him, they talked over Skype for 30 minutes. Joyner, along with his family, watched the Breaking Bad star on their 50-inch TV. After their chat, Cranston then ordered a truck of ice cream for the entire neighborhood on behalf of Joyner.
In her Facebook account, Aimee Pettigrew, Joyner's mother, recounted their experience with the actor and described him as fabulous.
Prior to their Skype video call, her mom also uploaded a video showing Joyner breaking into tears when he learned that his wish is about to be granted.
Many stars have shown their softer side by granting requests from their fans. Several weeks ago, another famous actor Jean-Luc Picard met with a young fan suffering from mitochondrial disease in a sci-fi convention.
