Geordie Shore is a British Reality Show which is broadcasted in MTV. However, the cast of the show were drastically losing weight that it alarmed a top nutritionist. Charlotte Crosby lost 2 stones 7 pounds from size 16 to a size 8 in just half a year. Holly Hagan has lost 3 stone and Marnie Simpson has lost a whopping 17 pounds in just one month. Lastly, Vicky Pattinson lost 3 stone.
The trend became famous among co-stars. They credit their remarkable weight loss to intense exercise and strict diet regime. However, because the girls can't seem to stop losing weight, they have stirred concerns that they are losing weight too fast and intense that it might cause serious health conditions.
Their weight loss stories were always posted in their social media accounts. In fact, Holly Hagan posted on Thursday night a photo of her legs. Her thigh gap was too wide, it sparked concern not only from their fans, but also from nutritionists. On the other hand, Charlotte Crosby took a photo of her abdomen with protruding hip bones.
According to a nutritional expert and therapist, Yvonne Bishop-Weston, the girls are taking weight loss too far. She added that losing weight too quickly is bad for the health because their bodies are likely to recalibrate the metabolism to compensate for the lack of calories.
"It's vitally important on these ridiculously low calorie celebrity diets that one makes every calorie count towards the body's nutritional needs. There should be no room made in these diets for foods with added processed sugar or fatty foods like burgers and cheese or sweets or else the body will soon become too low in essential fats, iron, B vitamins, zinc, magnesium, anti-oxidants and sources of fiber," Weston said.
Healthy weight loss entails losing around 3 - 5 pounds a week with proper nutrition and physical exercise. However, maintaining weight loss is a big challenge, in order to continuously lose weight proper diet and exercise is needed. Too much of everything is bad for the health, including exercise and losing weight.
