Everyone is talking about one of the newest projects of Bill Gates-and no, it's not the new Windows 10 or Project Spartan that shall take the place of Internet Explorer. Gates has long "retired" from Microsoft.
The buzz is all about poop water.
What is poop water? Nothing is ever clear than that. It's water that comes from sewage, which contains every type of body waste you can imagine, from urine, saliva, and, yes, feces. Gates and his team of engineers have found a way to convert sewage into clean, potable water using a special machine called an omni processor from Janicki Bioenergy.
This machine is specially designed to "clean" what could be the dirtiest kind of water in the world to something that you wouldn't mind drinking at any time of the day. Model S200 can produce as much as 86,000 liters of water a day, enough for around 28,000 people.
How does it work? According to its website, Janicki mentions that the sewage is boiled at a certain temperature, producing steam or water vapor in the process. The very high temperature also prevents the pathogens-and there are many-found in sewage to eventually die. Thus, water vapor is actually already quite clean.
The vapor is also treated with a comprehensive filtration system to remove whatever particulate is found in there. After filtration, the water vapor is condensed. Then it goes through a water treatment that modifies its pH since potable water should be neutral. Before it can be drunk, it passes through more filtration phases.
If you're wondering how it tastes, Janicki and Gates say it's the same as any bottled water. Proof of it is the latest Jimmy Fallon episode who had Gates as a guest.
As a challenge, Fallon had to drink from any of the two glasses of water. His choice depended on which one was not poop water. It turns out they've been rigged in the first place as both are poop water, and Fallon wasn't able to tell any difference.
