Bob Marley would have been 70 years old on Feb. 7, and to celebrate his birthday, Jamaicans held a special jamming session at his former home. They also had a free-admission concert at the Caribbean.
The late reggae legend, who was born in Nine Miles, northwest of Jamaica, died on May 11, 1981 due to cancer. He was only 36 years old.
Even though he had already passed away, he left behind his amazingly good reggae music as a legacy to music-loving people.
The mini jam session was held in Marley's old home in Hope Road, which is to the north of Kingston, said Reuters. Apart from celebrating the event with a lot of Marley's music, the people will also be having short talks about reggae, which is a music genre that was popularized by Jamaica.
Since it was created in the 1960s, it has been influenced by jazz and calypso, and is oftentimes partnered with lyrics that are laced in with social protest.
Moreover, his fans are glad that the late musician's estate decided to release an abundance of music material that has never been seen nor heard of before, according to Telegraph.
The first gift will be the combo back, entitled, "Bob Marley and the Wailers - Easy Skanking in Boston '78." It will showcase two of Marley's historic live shows, as featured in the Music Hall in June 1978, which was held in Boston. The album will be available in Blu-Ray, DVD, and CD.
The unseen footage was of an amateur caliber since it was only taken by a fan. There were gaps in the video, which most likely occurred when the person holding the camera had to change reels. To make the gap time manageable, they replaced it with animated sequences that were set to the music.
