Store-bought, commercially-produced home deodorizers may smell good and may seem to instantly remove odors, but what they really do is mask the stink and cause harm to your health.

Try out these natural deodorizers that will not mask but neutralize the stench in your home and are safe for the family.

Salt for Garbage Odor

The garbage disposal area is one of those places in the house that gives out all kinds of bad smells. To deal with this, get a half cup of salt, run cold water, and start disposing. The salt will help dislodge whatever waste that's stuck, and will remove unwanted smells.

Lemon, Lime or Orange Peels

To use fruit peels as home deodorizers, grate them and strategically place the shavings at certain corners of your home. These shavings will bring out a clean, lovely citrus scent.

Baking Soda

Baking soda has been known to help neutralize foul smells and work its antibacterial properties very effectively. To use, dump a cup of baking soda in a bowl and leave it on the side or corner of the room. This will allow the baking soda to absorb odors. For added fragrance and aesthetic, put the baking soda in a mason jar instead of a bowl, add 5 to 10 drops of your preferred essential oil (e.g. lavender, eucalyptus, or chamomile) , punch some holes on the lid of the jar, and decorate the jar with a ribbon. Leave the jar in the corner or even on a table.

Vinegar

Vinegar is also a no-fail home deodorizer, plus it is extremely cheap and efficient. Simply wipe your wall, floor, or countertops with white vinegar. Spraying vinegar in the toilet also helps deodorize filthy smells. Leaving a small bowl (or a mason jar) of vinegar in the bathroom helps as well. For the stench of cigarette smoke, moisten a cloth with vinegar and wave it around to quickly remove the nasty odor.
