Sony announced 2 spin-offs for "The Amazing Spider-Man" franchise in Dec. 2013 which includes "The Sinister Six and Venom." The film was supposedly scheduled for release on Nov. 11, 2016 but it has been postponed after their Feb. 2015 announcement of a new franchise with Marvel Studios.
"So the thinking at the moment is that Sony will faze out all the Spidey Verse films they were developing... And focus on a story involving Spidey versus the Sinister Six. The first film will involve the Sinister Six coming together with the thought to later maybe spin them off," a source said.
"At one point they were developing a film that was just going to be a spinoff called 'The Sinister Six.' That's scrapped but the big news is that the director of that film, Drew Goddard, will write and direct the 'Spectacular Spider-Man movie.'"
This seems to confirm that not only will the "Sinister Six" appear in the "Spectacular Spider-Man" film but also a possible spin-off for the supervillain group from Marvel Studios.
Drew Goddard has reportedly been enlisted to write the new "Spider-Man" reboot. He is the writer for upcoming web TV series "Daredevil" which is scheduled to premiere on Apr. 10, 2015. It is said that Goddard left Marvel in order to work on Sony's "Sinister Six."
Robert Downey Jr. might also play a part in the film as one of the many fights Spider-Man will be involved in. This battle with Iron Man, however, will be likely be the web-slinging hero's audition to be a part of The Avengers.
The "Sinister Six" are supervillains who are the main enemies of Spider-Man. Doctor Octopus organized the group which first appeared in "The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1" in January 1964. The original "Sinister Six" consisted of Doctor Octopus, Vulture, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio and Sandman.
