Disney is hopeful that fans have enjoyed the live-action films that they have released. As it would turn out, it looks like the studio does not have any plans of stopping as of yet.

It was announced just a little over a week ago that a live-action rendition will be made for “Winnie the Pooh,” “The Jungle Book, and “Mulan.” Now, it looks like the “Pinocchio” storyline is going to join the ranks.

Deadline had confirmed that the Peter Hedges, the director of “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,” will also be penning a story about the marionette that wants to turn into a real live boy, which will reportedly be loosely based on the Disney classic, “Pinocchio.”

However, instead of focusing on the marionette’s lying antics, where his nose lengthens whenever he tells a lie, the film will focus on their father-and-son relationship. It would appear that once the live-action film for “Pinocchio” comes to fruition, it will not necessarily adapt the classic narrative.

So far, the studio has not given out any significant details about the project. To date, Disney fans only have rumors to go on with, such as one that hints that Robert Downey, Jr. might star for two major roles, namely Pinocchio and Geppetto.

For a time, it was rumored that Burton was going to be called in to helm the story. However, when nothing came of those rumors, new ones surfaced, indicating that the director might be Ben Stiller. Disney had not confirmed nor denied these rumors and no new information has surfaced about the project on the Internet for a few years now, as pointed out by Screen Rant.

With earlier possibilities that the live-action “Pinocchio” film might be shot down, new talks about a stop-motion version came out. According to the report, the stop-motion movie might be directed by Guillermo del Toro, who is pretty famous for his darker and more macabre movie-making antics.

Sadly, the last news that has been released about this project came out also several years ago. With del Toro, confirmed to be directing “Pacific Rim 2,” plans of helming a stop-motion “Pinocchio” movie will have to be shelved for the time-being.
