"Warcraft" movie director Duncan Jones revealed that the film will start with a background on how Orcs and Humans met.
"From the moment I first talked to Blizzard, the plan was to start our film with the first time Orcs met Humans," Jones said. "I think that for a world with so much newness to explain, this was a wise choice, especially when so many people in our audience may not know anything about 'Warcraft.'"
"It was important that some of our characters would be seeing the world fresh as well, and that the audience could see the situation through their eyes... 'Warcraft' should be about heroes on both sides trying to avoid a conflict, when villains leave them no choice."
The film has wrapped production last year but the extensive special effects needed for the "Warcraft" movie meant that post-production will be quite long. Visual effects supervisor Bill Westenhoffer, who won an award for "Life of Pi," and ILM's Jeff White, who worked on Hulk in "The Avengers," are heading the team.
Anduin Lothar is the lead protagonist of the Alliance. The war hero is portrayed by Travis Fimmel. King Liane Wrynn, played by Dominic Cooper, is the leader of the Alliance city of Stormwind. Ben Foster takes on the role of Medivh, also known as "The Guardian."
Khadgar, a gifted young mage, is portrayed by Ben Schnetzer. Lady Taria, the royal Queen of Stormwind, is played by Ruth Negga while Paula Patton takes on Garona's role.
The Horde is led by the noble Chieftain of the Frostwolf Clan, Durotan, played by Toby Kebbel. Orgrim (Rob Kazinsky) is the right hand orc of Durotan. Blackhand, also known as The Destroyer, is portrayed by Clancy Brown and Daniel Wu takes on the role of Gul'Dan.
Jones and the cast of the upcoming "Warcraft" movie described the story of the film as two heroes on a collision course, not just a struggle of good against evil. It will be told from both the perspective of the orcs who are fleeing from famine in Draenor as well as from the humans of Azaroth's side who are defending their homes from the horde.
The "Warcraft" movie release date is slated for Jun. 2016.
