"The Last of Us 2" release date rumors continue to spread like wildfire online despite its unconfirmed status.
With all the plot speculations going around, fans are heavily discussing Ellie and Joel's possible return. Could a continuation of their story be explored in the sequel?
"If doctors had given Ellie the choice and presented her with the situation they found themselves in, would she have made the same decisions that Joel did?" Movie Pilot reported.
"Would she have fought her way out of that base in order to survive? Or would she have taken her own life in order to ensure the survival of the human race?"
"Personally, I love The Last of Us in its current form. It's direct, it's perfect, and I feel like an expansion to its narrative would upset the balance that naughty Dog created. Joel and Ellie shouldn't reappear in a game together in my opinion. However, if The Last of Us 2 was to feature both Joel and Ellie once more, this question should be at the heart of the game," the site added.
In terms of getting a new lead when "The Last of Us 2" is concerned, speculations thrive.
"A prequel starring Marlene, with an investigation into how she became the leader of the Fireflies would be really interesting," Movie Pilot noted. "It would give us the opportunity to see what it was like in the years straight after the outbreak."
"Joel's brother is an absolute hero in The Last of Us. In the opening moments of the game he saves his brother's life and the way that he helps him later in the game is beautiful. But would you guys want to take control of Tommy in the sequel? We could explore the years that he was part of the fireflies, his split-up with Joel and how he moved out to set up the base we're reunited with him in."
