"DOOM" aka "Doom 4" is just around the corner and Bethesda reveals release date details, including confirmation that this is indeed a reboot.

There was a lot of confusion when Bethesda announced that "Doom 4" will now be titled (and stylized as) "DOOM," which threw off a couple of fans. According to DigitalSpy, the new title arises from the idea that this installment is a reboot of the original games.

"'DOOM's' development cycle hasn't exactly been smooth sailing, however, and despite having announced the game in 2007, id Software scrapped and rebooted it," the report pointed out.

"Now simply known as 'DOOM' it's fair to say that this current version is very much a reboot of the franchise, as opposed to a direct sequel or even a remake," it added.

It was in June that Bethesda announced the release date of "DOOM" and while it was nothing specific, a window of release date was only revealed. IGN reported that "'DOOM' is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC Spring 2016, Bethesda announced during its E3 2015 press conference."

Meanwhile, development for "DOOM" has continued since it was unveiled, with a closed alpha version made available just this October. So far, reviews have been great save for a few minor adjustments as the game nears its release date.

PCGamer revealed details about the released alpha before "DOOM" release date and reported that, "The mode is limited to 6v6 Team Deathmatch, and will feature six weapons and two equipment items."

"You'll be able to transform into a Revenant during the alpha, and there's a 'power weapon' available in the form of the Gauss Cannon, which can see through walls and is ideal against the aforementioned Revenants," it added.

To date, "DOOM" release date remains on a vague, but relatively early 2016.
