The time line of the story was in 1989 and ended sometime in 1991 or 1992, which was when Columbia's King of Cocaine was jailed at the La Catedral prison. Eventually, the Search Block decided to work with the Cali Cartel, which happens to be Escobar's nemesis. Together, they just might be able to finish off Escobar in "Narcos" season 2 release date and spoilers once and for all.
Although there is a huge possibility of Escobar's death in the upcoming season, the DEA will still be active in Columbia. After all, in real life, after Escobar died, the Search Block still continued with its goal of dismantling the Columbian drug trade.
