Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise may have gone through a controversial divorce, but the actress tried not to say anything bad about her ex-husband maybe due to the influence of the Church of Scientology.
During a recent guest appearance on the "Today" show, the former "Dawson's Creek" star talked about her portrayal of a bipolar poet in her upcoming movie "Touched With Fire."
Matt Lauer suddenly remembered his feud with Tom Cruise back in 2005. The "Mission Impossible" star called the TV host "glib" after he talked about how Brook Shields used antidepressants to treat her postpartum depression. According to PEOPLE, the two debated over psychiatry and the actor insisted that the actress doesn't need to use drugs.
"The thing that I'm saying about Brooke is that there's misinformation, okay. And she doesn't understand the history of psychiatry," Cruise told Lauer. "She doesn't understand in the same way that you don't understand it, Matt."
The 58-year-old TV journalist still seems to have a grudge on the 53-year-old actor as he brings up their feud to the 37-year-old actress according to PageSix.
"[The movie] asks the question, is it beneficial to treat these people with drugs," Lauer told Holmes. "You and I both remember a heated discussion I got into on that subject here in this studio. How do you think the movie comes down on that? Where do you think it leads the viewer?" he asked.
Instead of talking about Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes gave out recognition to his director Paul Dalio. She could have done that in fear of Scientology because she doesn't want her ex-husband getting their daughter Suri Cruise away from her.
"What I think our director did a wonderful job with is this movie just kind of shows, this is it," Holmes revealed. "These are these two characters in a love story, which he's saying is kind of its own mania, to fall in love. But he puts the question of there for the audience to make that decision."
