Your skin is the largest and one of the most sensitive organs on the body. It's also a significant part of a person's appearance and confidence level. So, naturally, when you start having skin problems, you want to find a resolution quickly. While watching what you eat, wearing protection in the sun, and purchasing quality skincare products may resolve some issues, other skin conditions are more deeply rooted.

If you've been experiencing common skin problems and have had no luck with simple lifestyle changes, there could be something more significant happening. Below is a look at some of the most overlooked causes of common skin problems.

Thyroid Problems

Your thyroid is an essential gland responsible for regulating everything from your appetite to your hormones. If there's an imbalance or issue with your thyroid, you might experience symptoms like very dry skin, puffiness, and a pale complexion. No amount of lotion will keep your skin hydrated for very long until you've sought treatment for your thyroid.

STIs

You may know that sexually transmitted infections cause issues like pain, bumps, irritation, and other complications to your sexual organs, but did you know it can also affect your skin? While some STIs can be transmitted through skin contact, others cause symptoms, including legions, bumps, and cysts on other parts of the body. The only way to resolve your skin problem is to get STI screening and medications that treat the underlying condition.

High Toxicity Levels

Your body has a natural process of ridding itself of toxins it's exposed to daily. Be that as it may if you're exposed to more toxins than your body can release, it can cause an overload. When this happens, you'll often experience acne breakouts. While you might use a specialized acne skin care product, it won't be enough to keep pimples at bay. Ultimately, you need to make lifestyle changes that include ditching bad habits (drinking and alcohol), improving your diet, exercising, and drinking more water.

Chemical Sensitivities

It's important to note that not all skincare products are created equally. While they all proclaim to treat common skin issues, rejuvenate, and replenish your skin, this isn't always the case. Some of the most popular brands are riddled with chemicals that do more harm than good to your skin. You might experience dryness, oiliness, or breakouts if your skin is sensitive to the ingredients in your products. As such, it is imperative to shop for products that treat your skin type and exclude harmful chemicals.

Food Allergies

Food allergies are strange in that they can develop at any period in your life. One day you're fine with eating nuts, and the next day they cause an allergic reaction that shows up all over your body. That's why it's imperative to pay attention to what you consume. You may have developed an allergy if you notice a rash or bumps on your body after eating a particular food. Getting tested can help you pinpoint which ingredients you need to stay away from for healthier-looking skin.

Vitamin Deficiencies

Your body needs a well-balanced diet to retain the necessary vitamins, minerals, and nutrients to function. When you're deficient in specific vitamins, it can harm your skin. For example, if you tend to get cracks on the edges of your mouth, it could be due to an iron, vitamin B, or zinc deficiency. If you tend to get acne-like bumps on your cheeks, arms, legs, or buttocks, you could be dealing with a vitamin A or D deficiency. Ultimately, the solution could be as simple as changing your diet or taking multivitamins and supplements daily.

Everyone does the best they can to maintain healthy, flawless-looking skin. Unfortunately, it's not always an easy task. If you've been dealing with common skin issues like dryness, acne breakouts, rashes, itchiness, or irritation, you could be dealing with one of the underlying causes listed below. Talk with your doctor, dermatologist, or other medical specialists immediately for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan.
